i had my baby 11 days ago and i am still experiencing the symptoms. high blood pressure, headaches, seeing spots. is it normal to still be feeling this way? im tired of seeing doctors and taking medication. i just want to feel normal again. its very frustrating.
is this normal?
has anyone else ever experienced this? if so how long did it take you to get back to normal?

I had high blood pressure, and was put on medication for 3 weeks after giving birth. After that I was fine. I didn’t have any symptoms after the birth, just very high blood pressure – no headaches or anything. don’t stress – your blood pressure will normalize, stressing will only make it higher.

My systolic blood presure currently is 160 and plus when i have to exert myself pjysically in any way. I would like to bring this reading closer to 120 as possible. my diastolic reading is usually 87 – 104. I am a 58 year old female. I’m 5′ 6" tall, I weigh 255 lbs. and I know i need to eat healthier.

First you need to lose some weight. Second, you need to modify your diet. Mainly you must limit the intake of sodium. If you smoke, quit. If you drink, limit your intake. These simple modifications can make a huge difference in your blood pressure. Also, you can try stress management techniques such as yoga, excersice, aromatherapy, and meditation. Stress hormones play havoc on heart rate and cardiac output, so keeping them down is a good way to lower your blood pressure. If none of these work, then talk with your doctor about possible medical treatments like diuretics, beta blockers, and ACE inhibitors. Drugs should always be a last resort.

I ask because I am being treated for both aflictions.

There is a mysterious, not fully-understood connection between high BP and anxiety. Both anxiety and BP fluctuation can be caused by disruption or malfunction in the autonomic nervous system. Please read about Dysautonomia by typing it in to your search engine.

BP 112/56 pulse 66. I’m a 21-year-old female, reasonably active, 5′5 140 lbs. On websites they give broad ranges for BP and pulse. Are mine good considering my age and situation? Are they above or below average? I’m wondering because I recently read some news stories about kids who are starting to get high blood pressure

Your systolic blood pressure at 112 is very good, your diastolic blood pressure at 56 is a bit on the low side but not a problem as long as it does not drop substantially below 60 and your pulse at 66 is good as well.

With each beat, your heart contracts, sending a surge of pressure into the bloodstream. This surge period is called systolic (sis-TAHL-ik). It is the first number in a blood pressure reading. After the surge period, your heart rests briefly and expands in preparation for another beat. This expansion period is called diastolic (di-uh-STAHL-ik). It provides the second number in a blood pressure reading. Thus, a blood pressure reading of "120 over 80" means you have a systolic pressure of 120 and a diastolic pressure of 80.

I was walking for around 20 minutes, just before I walked into the store to take my blood pressure. The reading was 130/57. I cannot find a single chart on the web that is able to correlate my systolic and diastolic blood pressures. What do you think, is this good?
I am also athletic.
I am 19 and I weigh 162 lbs. with 7% body fat. I jog 4 miles every day.

That is an excellent reading, although the Diastolic pressure is just a tad low, but walking around for twenty minutes and still get a reading like that is good. Blood pressures fluctuate throughout the day. Maybe next time it will be different. I personally don’t have much faith in the electronic kits, I prefer the reliable old mercury readings. And also for your information, if you have a large arm you should use a large cuff. If you use a small cuff on a large arm the reading will be high, and vice versa. You don’t state your age, but an old rule of thumb for blood pressure is 100 plus your age, over 60 to 80. Some people do carry low blood pressures, but to low is as dangerous as to high. Yours is great. Good luck to you sir.

It is of utmost importance to realize that high blood pressure can go unrecognized and undiagnosed for years, causing no high blood pressure symptoms but causing progressive damage to the heart, blood vessels and other organs. By the time high blood pressure, or hypertension, is diagnosed, the damage done may be irreparable – leading to heart attack, heart disease, or stroke.

The cardio-protective properties many of the foods consumed in countries such as Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain and France gave rise to the term ‘The Mediterranean Diet’. The beneficial effects of this way of eating came to light through studies in the mid 1940’s that showed particularly low incidence of heart disease in the Mediterranean Basin. However, the benefits of the Mediterranean diet in high blood pressure treatment have only been re-discovered since the 1990’s.

A closer look revealed that the type of foods eaten were far healthier for the heart than the high sodium diet of the US. The vegetables were not overcooked and there was a choice of raw vegetables and fruits, meaning more vitamins and minerals beneficial to high blood pressure treatment were retained. A large amount of the protein came from vegetable sources, thus reducing the amount of saturated fat which often accompanies animal protein. Total amounts of saturated fats and trans fat which are known to raise blood cholesterol and blood pressure levels were low. These bad fats were replaced by monounsaturated fats, thought to be beneficial in the treatment of heart disease and hypertension.

So what’s in the Mediterranean diet that can help in the treatment of high blood pressure?

1.Anti-oxidants – such as vitamins A, C and E prevent the accumulation of cholesterol in the arteries. This prevents the narrowing of the blood vessels and effectively help in high blood pressure treatment

2.Potassium – helps in the treatment of high blood pressure by counteracting the bad effects of sodium in the blood stream

3.Folic acid – which helps to reduce the formation of homocysteine which can contribute to heart disease.

4.Omega 3 - found in oily fish common in the Mediterranean diet, have special heart protective properties. Such properties include reducing heart arrhythmias, reducing the stickiness of the blood and reducing injury to artery walls. All of this contributes to the treatment of high blood pressure.

As with any other dietary change, choosing a Mediterranean way of eating will produce maximum effect in reducing heart disease only when coupled with other positive lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking and increasing exercise.

However increasing your intake of roasted Italian vegetables, barbecued Spanish sardines plus the odd glass of French wine certainly sounds like a pleasurable way to reduce heart disease!

A very large number of people are suffering from high blood pressure all over the world, and because the modern lifestyle is rich on stress and junk food, more and more people are discovering that the ’silent killer’ as some call high blood pressure is affecting them.

The blood pressure is the force with which the blood pushes on the walls of the veins and arteries as it flows through them. If this force is too high then the veins and arteries get slowly damaged in time, and those who suffer from it can develop atherosclerosis and other heart diseases. If high blood pressure is not treated it can lead to strokes, heart attacks or other severe complications.
High blood pressure has no symptoms, most people discover that they have it during routine medical controls. However, at those that have had it for a long time it can cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or insomnia.

There are many drugs available that can treat blood pressure, and each works in a different way. Some of the chemical drugs are known to cause side-effects, so a number of patients prefer to lower their blood pressure naturally. A large number of natural remedies for lowering blood pressure can be found on the market, and they are very effective, so more and more people are resorting to natural remedies.

The most common home remedies for lowering high blood pressure are diet and lifestyle changes, because these two are important factors that can cause the affection or make it worse.
The diet must be changed so that it contains many minerals like calcium and magnesium. When these minerals lack from the body, blood pressure increases, and if you eat foods that are rich in them then the blood pressure will normalize a little. Vegetables contain a lot of minerals. The richest vegetables in calcium are bananas, grapefruits, broccoli, potatoes, peas and avocado.
Specialists recommend eating celery, because it contains a substance that can lower the blood pressure and east the muscles around the veins.
Another vegetable that has important properties is garlic. Eating a few cloves of garlic every day can have a significant effect over your blood pressure. For those that do not want to eat raw garlic there are a lot of garlic nutritional supplements available in the stores.
Some people also state that yoga can significantly lower blood pressure and improve the blood circulation.

The most important thing to do when you have high blood pressure is to quit smoking and drinking alcohol if you do. Tobacco and alcohol seriously raise the blood pressure and if you smoke or drink the therapy that you chose may not have any effect.

There are many ways to lower blood pressure naturally, but always consult a doctor before choosing one and listen to a proffesional advice in this matter.

In the early days, Healthcare Professionals were reluctant to prescribe Drugs for patients with a High Blood Pressure reading of less than 160/100 Hg. At this time these levels were deemed not to be dangerous as they were viewed as gentle High Blood Pressure.

The thinking behind this all was that the possible dangers of the side effects of the medication used at the time might outweigh the benefits of the medication. The chances of increased adverse reaction and increased side effects of the drugs were considered too great to warrant the introduction of medication.

Things have moved on however and attitudes have changed. Both of the above perceptions relating to the danger of the side effects and the mild nature of the blood pressure readings have lead to the discontinuance of this practice.

Recent research has confirmed the importance of treating Stage 1 Hypertension (a reading of between 140/90 and 159/99 Hg) as soon as is possible with medication. It is now also considered best practice to treat patients who also suffer from Diabetes and High Blood Pressure if their readings are as low as 130/80 Hg. The sensitivity of pharmaceuticals nowadays is such that blood pressure levels can be controlled with much lower dosages with a corresponding drop in the danger of side effects.

Never has there been a greater variety of medication available to Doctors from which to choose. These Anti High Blood Pressure Drugs also include many types where there is a combination of several different types of drug. The newer types of drugs quite often have a different chemical makeup and structure compared to the traditional medicine but quite often produce nearly identical effects on the human body.

The variety and sophistication of medication is such now that Healthcare Professionals can produce care plans and programmes tailored to the individual patient and in most cases prescribe medication that have negligible side effects to the sufferer and protect against possible further difficulties down the line.

The common initially accepted approach to High Blood Treatment nowadays is to start slow and low and then gradually increasing the dosage of the medicine prescribed until the High Blood Pressure levels sink to a normal level. If this is not shown to work or causes troublesome adverse reactions then a wide number of replacements are available for use.

The target levels here are 140/90 Hg. For those with diabetes or chronic kidney disease then the ideal targets are reduced to 130/80 Hg. For Stage 2 Hypertension (the old levels of conventional High Blood Pressure) then the accepted course of is to start with at least 2 drugs. If this does not appear to be working then the idea is to start an additional course of medication using another drug alongside the first two.

As in all cases like these, the effectiveness of these programmes and care plans is greatly increased by a reduction of activities that might cause associate problems therefore changing your diet; reducing your consumption of alcohol considerably and stopping smoking altogether do help.

Nuff said really.
