I have had higher blood pressure for a few years now. I’ve come to terms with it. When I had my first OB visit (interview) they checked it because they were prepared to put me on meds that day if it was as high as it usually is. It was 140/80 that day. She said it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t anything they were going to worry about yet. That was two weeks ago. Today I went for an ultrasound and they checked my BP again to monitor it. It was 120/78 which is damn near perfect for a BP reading.

Does anyone know why it would have changed so drastically? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy about it.. But I’m wondering if the reading was possibly inaccuate for some reason. I didn’t see my OB today, it was just a nurse who did my BP reading after my ultrasound so she could chart it for my doctor.
I guess I don’t mean why "would" it have gone down. I really mean why "could" it have gone down so much.

Pregnancy can cause your blood pressure to go down. Like everything else, it has to do with all the hormonal changes.

My BPs have fluctuated wildly since I got pregnant. I’m usually always around 110/70, but I had a few high readings early in pregnancy because I was so nervous that something would go wrong. Now that I’m 26w with a healthy baby, my BPs are back to normal. You know your history–let your doctors know if you have problems. I got a lot of weird looks when my BPs were high, but when I explained that my BPs are consistently low at home when I check them myself, and that I’m particularly nervous in the office, my doctors haven’t worried about the BPs since.

Can you monitor yours at home? Keep an eye on it–if it stays in the healthy range (120/80 or lower) then let your doc know. If you are creeping higher, it might be best to report it for your health and the health of the baby. In the meantime, the drop in BP is normal in pregnancy, so I wouldn’t worry about it being an inaccurate reading.

I’m not a medical professional but I have had personal experience with higher blood pressure. 3 weeks ago my b/p was 130/90, and yesterday it was 105/60. You could have been feeling a bit stressed out that day, nervous or excited, eaten an extra salty meal….. any of those.
Next time it’s high ask your doctor if you can lay down for a few minutes and get him to check it again. My doctor did this for me in my previous pregnancy and the second reading was close to normal.
Also, a more accurate way of seeing how your b/p is, is to get multiple readings in a day.

Millions of reasons. What you are eating, your mindset, your hormones, your mental health. Sounds like you are doing great…

Could also be things that you gave up now that you’re pregnant? Coffee, tea, smoking, medicines, OTC meds, etc. will make blood pressure spike. Perhaps it’s down because you’ve given up these things.

Are you eating better? Could be less fat, sodium, etc. helping your body.

I had the same thing happen to me. I am 13weeks pregnant and before pregnancy I was running about 128/78- 131/82.
Then I went for my OB appt today and my BP was 120/66 I mentioned it to my doc and she stated that in your first trimester your BP is usuallly low, then second trimester it will creap up a little bit, then by the third trimester they will really start to moniter it, because it will get high. So I believe that we are totally hitting normal limits right now, no need to worry. Congradulations and best wishes too you!!!
