My fiance is just wondering, cause his blood pressure reading was 116/66, but his heart rate was 117 bpm (beats per minute)
But we also were just on a walk. I’m just wondering, his blood pressure reading seemed pretty good.
Thanks in advance!
The blood pressure reading as you know is quite fine. The normal resting heart rate is 50 to 90 not 60 to 100 as many people believe. The normal resting heart rate was lowered based upon the results of more than 200 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure and pulse readings. No decision should ever be based upon a single reading. A pulse of 117 after a walk may be normal but it should have dropped to less than 90 within 5 to 10 minutes of rest. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. I wish you both the very best of health and in all things may God bless.

Before you suspect any abnormality in your blood pressure, you need to understand that blood pressure varies at moment of the day. For better accuracy in reading, take an average of morning, afternoon and night pressure to see if condition persist. Walking after a hearty meal/ empty stomach isn’t a good time to guage blood pressure, as blood could be concentrated at certain organs for digestion or supplying energy certain muscle group to burn calories. 116/66 isn’t a pressure that you should be worrying about, however a 117 bpm at walking/strolling pace is a sign of weak metalbolism/heart that needed some attention. Normal heart rate is about 72bpm at rest, walking might elevate to 90 and brisk walking/slow jog could reach 120… If problem persist, arrange for a blood test to see there any other causes like high cholesterol. Good luck and take care.

You don’t say how old your boyfriend is? Or if he regularly exercises? These 2 things will make a difference. His blood pressure is perfectly fine and his pulse seems fine for just having walked. Normal resting heart rate can range from 60-100 per min. for someone over 18. If he is not that active then his heart rate will be higher during exercises. Your heart rate while exercising should never exceed your predicted maximum which is calculated with this formula. 220 – your age = your predicted heart rate. He seems to have had no other indication of any problems so i would say he is a normal healthy person
One study based on 200 people does not change medical normals. As i stated already, without more information from the poster as to his age, normal activity level, and a HR taken before, during, immediately after and 10 minutes after that, it’s impossible to assess wether 117 is normal? And without any other symptoms he seems fine. Report this to your physician and see what he says.
