In chocolate it is probably the antioxidant or some other component that reduces high BP. The junk sugar in chocolate is just as bad as the junk sugar in sweets, desserts, ice cream, cakes, cookies and biscuits.

Here is the best way to understand this. People need to have a total of 3 vegetables and 3 fruits daily for low blood pressure, including 2 glasses of milk, moderate meat portions and at least the equivalent of 6 pieces of bread for starch. The more fiber and the more whole grain the better. Salt intake must be low, about 2400 mg per day. This leaves room for some chocolate and some sugar. However, too much sweets and junk food makes us all gain weight and thus, raises our blood pressure. Chocolate has tannins which does lower our bad cholesterol in our blood, but chocolate a few times a day makes us gain weight. Thus, fattening foods need moderation to be part or a healthy diet
