I was just talking with a nurse about this today, because I have a disease that causes my blood to be thicker, which causes my heart to work harder to pump it, which in turn ups my blood pressure. However, it is important to remember there is often more to high blood pressure.
Essentially the top number is how hard the heart works to bring the blood in and the bottom number is how hard your heart works to push the blood out.

No it is not caused by thickening of the blood. There are many factors that contribute to high blood pressure. I speak from experience. sodium is one of the major contributors. Salt, Salt Salt will literally kill you. Your diet consists of sodium in most foods. Exercise. is important. Stress is also a major contributor to high blood pressure. high blood causes strokes and heart attacks.smoking and saturated fats is also a contributors.
