The Dr’s have been trying to get her medication right, but they can’t seem to. I was wondering if anyone could please suggest any natural remedies or found partculars things worked for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am so scared I am going to lose her…

Eliminate ALL salt from her diet, and drink LOTS of water everyday.

    Garlic has been shown in numerous studies to help lower a high blood pressure. They sell garlic supplements in many places in the vitamin section.

    Low sodium and calming teas shuld help. Try Chamomille or Lemon zest. Also, get her to give up red meat. Low fat diet.

    Walk a half mile out, half mile back to the mall or in the country.

    Low impact exercise, diet, low stress…those are the best bets to avoid an avoidable stroke.

    She’s got to de-stress. Living in an "urbane" world is actually quite stressful. Whatever you can see etc. at any particular point in time is enough to know. That’s why that’s the bit your brain chose to let through into its operating system.

    I know that basil is good for memory and it tastes nice too with apple as a crushed juice. I remember when I read the book, Lion Heart, by Jesse Martin, there was a passage where he was just enjoying making hot chocolate just to pass the time. He had all his work around the boat done. That has got to be true relaxation.

    One thing you’ve got to try and avoid, I think, is becoming a burden yourself because of your worry. It’s not good to join an unwell person in their world. It’s just more for them to worry about when they’ve got enough on their plate. Something to watch out for yourself – don’t try and force yourself to be more cheery or more sedate with various outings to the countryside or images of pathos on your walls. You’ve got enough to deal with. Just being able to help is something to be thankful for. You’ve got to consider her emotional health as well. She might not want to say if she’s worried about you.

    Avoid trying to mix up identities with her. You can do it easily enough by self-hypnotising or fixating on shiny things, but you’re only going to pick up what she’s saying this way. It’s not the same as knowing how she’s feeling. Only she knows that.

    I’m no medical professional, but I’d say any diet high in vegetables, fruit, and non-processed protein (i.e. low sodium, no pre-cooked pre-packaged foods)and low in starches and processed grains (whole grains are OK) would be the way to go.

    Nan needs to cut salt and bad fat – olive oil (good fat) and garlic (fresh – not the supplements!) might help – ask Nan’s doctor about these things.
