The 2011 Leaf, released by Nissan, is the world’s first commercially viable fully electric car. Yeah, you read that correctly, a fully electric car, as in no gasoline needed at all. Pretty amazing all things considered. Just plug it in at night and let it charge. So think about adding an extension cord to your trunks emergency kit as well.

A cleverly disguised acronym, it stands for, Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family car, totally lame, but it works. While the Leaf began appearing in the U.S. in December 2010, it is just now really beginning to gain notice. Sales are limited mainly to customers with online reservations. Worldwide sales reached around 20,000 last year and Nissan is in the process of slowing raising production numbers while the demand increases.

The Leaf is the ultimate green vehicle. It produces absolutely no greenhouse gas emissions or tailpipe pollution and reduces over all dependency on petroleum. Being so environmentally friendly has earned it the 2010 Green Car Vision award, the 2011 European Car of the Year award, the 2011 World Car of the Year award and back to back titles as Japanese Car of the Year in 2011-2012. At used trucks you will find a huge selection to choose from.

You won’t be winning any races, but you will be saving the planet. It’s designed to be used exclusively within a limited radius such as the city you live in. It’s not going to take you across the country to Los Vegas or Miami, but it is great for running around town. The max range is listed at 100 miles but tests have shown a 40% variance bases on travel conditions and climate. It packs 110 hp and can go from 0-60 in 9.9 seconds with a max speed of 93 mph.

Since it is electric it is able to carry some really swell features. For starters, you can program it to turn the heater on at a specific time. So if you hate waking up in the morning to a cold car, fear no more. Program it to come on ten minutes before you leave the house and presto, instant warm coziness.

This made us think. If it can turn its own heater on, what else can it do? Can you plug in a skillet? This could be the ultimate date machine. Preprogram to turn on the heat when you’re ready to turn up the heat. Plug in a coffee pot and a chocolate fondue fountain and you are good to go. You could even rig a little table to pop out of the trunk. Not only that, you could pre-program a little Johnny Mathis or Sinatra to come on at just the right moment. When you consider this fact, when it comes to automobiles, it may be time to turn over a new Leaf.

It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about Spring and Summer car storage. Car covers have been proven to help protect your vehicle, both indoors and outdoors. They offer a great custom fit and come in a wide variety of different patterns. For every-day use, you can get the best protection from a Covercraft WeatherShield Car Cover.

Weathershield covers provide a number of unique features. The material is waterproof, shedding the water as soon as it hits fabric. The copyrighted fiber encapsulation process prevents dust from getting through the fabric and onto the vehicle. The silky sleek finish of the fabric prevents scratching of the vehicle and has been tested 1,000 cycles on abrasion wheels. The breathability of the fabric allows condensation and heat to be released easily. The UV resistant properties created by adding special additives, protect your car’s finish and interior from sun damage.

The process used to make the extraordinary WeatherShield fabric is to place an ultra thin film around the fabric fibers which precisely places a durable and breathable barrier within the fabric. Unlike customary coatings and laminations that just guard one side of the fabric WeatherShield uses 40 mechanized procedures to place protective polymers right into the fabric. This method allows air to circulate through the material but guarantees moisture, dust and pollutants are kept away from the vehicle’s finish.

The computerized process called Nextec encapsulation creates a breathable, dust-proof, and water resistant fabric used in Covercraft car covers. Here, a strong barrier is created by binding silicon polymers around individual threads and filling in spaces between the weave.

One of a car owner’s biggest concerns is how to keep their car looking great after they purchase it and start driving it around. There are certainly a lot of hazards associated with driving and parking your car outside. That people focus almost exclusively on maintaining their car’s exterior is a logical assumption then. You need to look at this issue from another side though.

Ensuring the interior of your car remains clean is just as important, even though the interior of your car may not get you as many admiring looks as the exterior. On a daily basis, you as the car owner will be the one seeing the interior. There’s a lot that could go wrong, in terms of keeping your car’s interior clean, if you commute to work like most people do.

What is the likelihood that you’ll be able to go through every single morning without managing to spill even just a drop or two onto a car seat, if you enjoy coffee, for example? If you’re rushing, the odds are probably not high that you’ll avoid doing this. You’ll likely end up needing to dump the remains of a fast food run onto the backseat of your car in lieu of actually throwing it out immediately, if you ever go out to grab fast food on the rush. As though it’s tissue paper, grease can soak through paper bags. Three guesses where all that grease will end up if you throw a bag onto your car’s backseat.

Car seat covers are consequently a good way to combat such problems. Made of a variety of different fabrics and able to withstand a lot of wear and tear, they might be just the thing to ensure your actual seat covers remain unblemished. This is important for resale purposes in the future, since it’s a lot easier simply to strip off a dirty seat cover than to have your car reupholstered. If you’ve got eclectic tastes as well, seat covers are definitely for you. You can get them with polka dots or even zebra stripes. It’s all up to you.

So, the next time you consider grabbing coffee or some fast food for lunch, consider just how much less it would cost you in time and effort to clean your seats if they’ve already been covered up. For someone with an on-the-go lifestyle, you can’t really go wrong with car seat covers.

Hybrid cars are on everyone’s minds these days. Twenty, forty, or fifty dollars for a tank of fuel? Who in their right mind really wants to pay that sort of money? But, frustrated, the petrol customer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are being applauded for the little amount of petrol they need to operate, and they are being driven off the lots of car dealerships each and everyday in ever increasing numbers.

So, what about a plug-in hybrid? Most users have heard that these vehicles are great too. So, someone might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrids are able to run solely on batteries, but they use fuel also. These sorts of hybrid cars share some of the characteristics of hybrid vehicles. They are also are very similar to electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid cars need to be charged externally by plugging them into an electrical power source. The combustion engine of plug-in hybrid vehicles is used only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if desired, but it is expected that these types of hybrid cars be plugged in every day.

Hybrid cars can go just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where fuel-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the motorway, in cities, or wherever else a person needs to travel.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to handle commuter-type distances, meaning between twenty and sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using fuel too.

Hybrids help to minimize pollution, but they still pollute the atmosphere. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go as far as pollution is concerned. Since plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don’t have to emit waste gases at all.

Plug-in hybrids actually do combat greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use virtually no oil imported or not. Studies have shown that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases compared with petrol cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study indicated.

And so there you have it. Those are the main differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It makes a big difference, but you would be surprised how little that matters at the current moment. And that’s only because plug-in hybrids are not being marketed to consumers at this present time. But this article should get you excited about the wonderful plug-in hybrid car, coming soon to a forecourt near you.

And it’s going to be a great debut too, since people already like the current hybrid car models, but they haven’t seen anything yet until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe we should just be satisfied with what we already have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars are brought out onto the forecourts, something even better might be introduced onto the market.

The 1967 Corvette is well-known as a very well-liked classic car that will send tingles down the spines of Corvette collectors everywhere. Although it was intended to be a moderate upgrade, it actually was a change from its predecessor with far better aerodynamics. Many people consider it the cleanest looking Corvette ever.

The 1967 Corvette wheelbase of the convertible and the coupe models was equally 98 inches. Length was 175.1 inches. The width of the 1967 Corvette was 69.6 inches. The curb weight was 3360 pounds for both the coupe and the convertible. The standard axle ratio was 3.55.1. The powertrain actually changed very little from a year before.

Its front suspension had independent upper or lower A arms, anti-roll bar, tubular hydraulic shock absorbers, and cool springs. The rear suspension featured fixed differential, radius rods, tubular hydraulic shock absorbers, lateral struts, in an extra antiroll bar came with 1967s that had a big block engine.

The factory color choices of the 1967 Corvette included Ermine White, Marina blue, Sun fire yellow, Rally red, Goodwood green, Silver Pearl, Lynndale blue, Marboro maroon, Elkhart blue, and Tuxedo Black.

The rear engine of the 67 Corvette was really the L88. Many people deemed this car as near to a racing motor for a production car that has ever been publicly released by Chevrolet. It can flat-out run like a scalded dog. It had 12:5:1 compression and a huge Holly 4 barrel carburetor. This nice motor could generate 560 hp at 6400 RPM but it had to be used with 103 octane racing fuel. Most people could not achieve the speed with the gasoline from their local gas station, but it undoubtedly showed a great deal of power anyway.

The year of 1967 was the year in which Corvette’s sales drop by 5000 units, due to a new redesign that was coming out. However, the 67 Corvette is considered one of the quintessential collector cars of all time. Its impact on the car collecting world has been tremendous.

When you drive up to the gas pump and fuel your car up with $10-$50 worth of gas, you may find yourself heaving a long drawn out sigh. How on Earth did gas get to be so expensive? Should you check out one of those new hybrid cars you saw on the television? Everyone’s talking about hybrid cars anyway. Hybrid cars and other types of cars may seem to be a good idea, but before you go out and do something rash, maybe you should ask yourself a few questions about how you can begin to save on petrol.

Nowadays, there are so many options out there including everything from not going out to buying a hybrid car, but you have to find out what is best for you personally and you can best do that by posing yourself the following questions.

Perhaps you should drive less often?

Yes, you could spend the rest of your life at home on the couch, but how would you get by then? I know what you’re thinking! You will walk more and so get more exercise. That may be true, but what will happen when you get bored with walking and riding your bike? How are you going to be able to get to the gymnasium then? And, have you forgotten about work? You know you just love listening to your books on tape while you are sitting in the traffic jams at the end of the workday. Should you drive less? Perhaps not then. But what should you do? Well, have you ever considered purchasing a hybrid car?

Should I buy a car that gets more miles for less gas?

Yes, of course you could do this, but what about when the vehicle starts to depreciate with age and it becomes less fuel-efficient than you thought it would be? Moreover, because you know you have a car that is getting more mileage out of petrol, you are going to start driving more miles than you travelled beforehand.

Should I get up earlier each morning to look for the cheapest gas prices in the area?

Really, who has the time to do all that? If you really think about it, you would probably spend your time better finding the right answer to the real question. Do you really want to spend extra time looking for a cheap petrol station? What would your boss think if you arrive late for work and tell him you were trying to save money on gas? And anyway, how long do you think you’d keep that up?

Should I find a way to run my car on electric batteries?

Well, let’s see now, you certainly don’t want to have to charge your car’s batteries every day before you go to work because that might make you late as well. However, with a hybrid car, you wouldn’t have to worry about that. Therefore, the next question should be quite obvious.

Should I purchase a hybrid car?

Perhaps you should. It’s possible that buying a hybrid car would be a wise method to avoid paying higher fuel costs. Will your car depreciate right after you drive it off the forecourt? A hybrid won’t do that so quickly as it brings the buyer in more and more money as they save on fuel. A hybrid car just might be a good choice here. However, it is always a good idea to conduct further research on a hybrid car.

Today, the question on everybody’s mind is, what is the real difference between a hybrid car and a conventional vehicle? They suppose that there has to be some good reason why people are wondering whether hybrid cars are worth the money and checking their wallets and bank accounts to see if they can afford to buy a hybrid car.

There must be some reason why other people wouldn’t consider shelling out the money for a hybrid car because they feel their conventional car gets them to where they need to go well enough. Here are some of the reasons why a person might choose a conventional car over a hybrid car and vice versa.

Hybrid cars are much more expensive than conventional cars: because hybrid cars have a much more complex internal design, they do still have a pretty hefty price tag on them. However, conventional cars, which have gotten more efficient as the years have gone on, are quite affordable these days. Many people are selling their old conventional cars to buy newer, more efficient versions.

They are so inefficient in fact, that some people even give their old cars away. However, since a large percentage of the general population has never owned a hybrid, there aren’t many people selling used hybrid cars yet. Therefore, the average person looking to buy a hybrid would probably have to purchase a new one from a car dealer.

Both a hybrid car and a conventional car use a similar type of battery: a hybrid car and a conventional car both use lead-acid batteries that have enough power to turn a small electric motor. These batteries are what you call “gear reduced”. That means that they can turn over this electric motor at approximately 300 rpms. Torque is generated to turn over the engine and the entire process is what starts the main petrol or diesel engine.

However, even though a hybrid car uses a lead-acid battery, the battery it uses to drive the car’s electric motor is of a different construction entirely. This kind of battery is known as a ‘deep cycle battery’ and it can be compared to the batteries that are used to move electric fork-lift trucks, some milk floats or golf carts.

That’s the main difference between a hybrid car and a conventional car. One person might choose a hybrid car because it makes them feel more secure. For instance, if a person buys a hybrid car, they can feel secure that their car will be less likely to run out of gas. Another person might not choose a conventional car because the cost of gas doesn’t really bother them that much.

Furthermore, a conventional car provides security as well. With a conventional car, a person can be assured that they will always be able go to a scrapyard, if they need to and find old parts for their car. On the other hand, those with a hybrid car might have to pay some pretty pricey repair receipts if something goes wrong.

However, the final decision remains up to you. There are certain risks involved with both sorts of vehicles. But those who like to try out new technology might just consider splurging out on a new hybrid car.

Those considering purchasing a hybrid car may be more than a little concerned about what is under the hood. Hybrid cars have partially battery-powered motors. Since a battery-powered motor is not something that typically comes to mind when people think about what’s driving a car, it’s a good idea to get a good understanding of hybrid car battery packs. Below you will find a few facts about them.

Hybrid car battery packs do not have to be replaced like flashlight batteries do. They are made to last over the lifetime of the vehicle, and therefore a hybrid car’s warranty covers the battery pack for a time period that runs between eight and ten years. In terms of mileage, a hybrid car battery pack is expected to last between 150,000 and 200,000 miles, and it probably will last even longer than that.

The toxicity of hybrid car battery packs is a concern, but not a major concern, since hybrid car batteries use NiMH batteries, not the rechargeable nickel cadmium ones. Nickel cadmium batteries can be detrimental to the environment if not disposed of correctly, but the NiMH batteries that are used in hybrid car battery packs are fully recyclable.

Hybrid car battery packs contain hundreds and hundreds of cells. Several hundreds of cells means that hybrid cars have a complex battery beneath their bonnets, and, it is true, complexity usually means expensive, but with the generous guarantee hybrid car manufacturers are giving on these cars, there is very little risk of additional massive expense from the battery pack involved in purchasing a hybrid car.

The number of hybrid car battery pack failures reported has been really very low. When I say low, I mean negligible. If failure does happen, it is usually before the hybrid car even leaves the salesman’s garage. Toyota has even said that some of its first Prius hybrid models have battery packs that have lasted more than 300,000 miles.

The cost of replacing hybrid car battery packs isn’t really even a problem. It isn’t a problem because the hybrid car battery packs are made for longevity. The Department of Energy looked into hybrid cars, but stopped its tests when the capacity of the hybrid car battery pack was determined to be “just like new” after 160,000 miles. So, very few people really seem to know for sure what it costs to replace hybrid car battery packs except the manufacturers.

Hybrid car battery packs are evolving quickly. If we look further into the future, we can see the next generation of hybrid car batteries is in the works. The goal is, of course, to discover a technology that gives lots of power, lasts for the hybrid car’s lifetime, and costs less to make than it does now.

If your hybrid car battery pack does develop a problem, there is an easy solution. Toyota has given some advice on what to do, should your hybrid battery pack be depleted after the guarantee has ended. Their advice is to have the battery reconditioned. This solution works well because if something does go wrong, the problem usually lies with only one of the 28 modules that make up the battery.

The solution is to simply replace the problematic module with one that matches the chemistry of the hybrid car battery pack’s remaining 27 modules, your hybrid car’s battery should be back in good shape. You can find a matching module by getting a battery pack from another hybrid car of a similar mileage and age.
